Rotary kilns in cement, lime, and metallurgical plants rely on a single girth gear to drive the entire kiln tube—sometimes over 80 meters long and weighing thousands of tons. The gear operates in an environment of intense radiant heat, dust, and slow continuous rotation, typically between 1 and 5 RPM. Thermal expansion of the kiln shell introduces alignment challenges that the gear must accommodate without losing tooth contact.
