Designed for optimal power transmission and performance, the SAG Mill Girth Gear ensures efficient operation in grinding processes. Its precise engineering enhances the reliability and longevity of milling equipment, contributing to reduced downtime and maintenance costs.
Product Introduction
SAG (Semi-Autogenous Grinding) mills operate under some of the harshest mechanical conditions in any concentrator. The girth gear must absorb extreme shock loads from falling ore and steel balls while maintaining precise tooth engagement at low rotational speeds—typically 8 to 15 RPM. Unlike ball mills, SAG mills see variable and unpredictable loading patterns, which makes fatigue resistance in the gear tooth root a design-critical factor.
Hanwei addresses these challenges through controlled material selection and heat treatment. We produce SAG mill girth gears from Φ3 m to Φ16 m, with maximum module 50 to match the heavy-duty tooth profiles common in SAG applications. Our forged-welded process—where forged ring segments are welded and stress-relieved before machining—ensures the tooth zone benefits from a fine-grained forged microstructure, significantly improving fatigue life under cyclic impact loading.
Precision grinding on our 16 m CNC form grinder or NILES machines keeps tooth profile errors within DIN Grade 6. For SAG service, we pay particular attention to tip relief and root fillet optimization, reducing stress concentrations where cracks typically initiate.
We hold drawings for most major SAG mill models—FLSmidth, Metso, ThyssenKrupp, and others. When the original gear is still in place, our on-site measurement team can capture full geometry data, enabling a bolt-on replacement without any modification to the existing drive arrangement.
Warranty extends to 10 years on forged-welded girth gears. Request a technical review of your SAG mill drive specification today.
