Semi-autogenous (SAG) grinding mills with ball charge supplementation demand girth gears that bridge the operating profile between pure autogenous mills and conventional ball mills. The gear sees moderate to high shock loading combined with sustained torque, requiring a balanced approach to hardness and toughness that differs from either extreme.
Hanwei engineers each semi-autogenous mill girth gear to its specific duty cycle. For mills primarily in ore-body comminution, we specify alloy steels with enhanced impact toughness in the tooth core and case-hardened surfaces up to 380 HB for wear resistance. Our four manufacturing process routes—cast, forged, cast-forged welded, and forged-steel-plate welded—give us the flexibility to optimize both cost and performance for each order.
Dimensional range covers Φ1 m through Φ16 m, with modules up to 50. Finishing is performed on our suite of CNC grinding machines: the 16 m form grinder handles the largest single-piece and split gears, while the 5 m NILES and 2.5 m Höfler cover mid-range sizes with proven DIN Grade 6 accuracy.
Split-gear construction is available for installations where the mill cannot be disassembled for gear replacement.
