High-Performance Transmission Shaft for Heavy Industrial Machinery

Transmission shafts are the connecting elements that carry torque between drive components—gearboxes, couplings, pulleys, and driven equipment. In heavy industry, these shafts often operate under combined bending and torsion at moderate speeds, with demanding reliability expectations because a shaft failure typically halts the entire drive train. Hanwei manufactures transmission shafts for industrial applications ranging from mill drives and crusher systems to conveyor and hoist drives. Every shaft is produced from forged alloy steel, heat-treated to achieve the required combination of strength and toughness for the specific duty cycle.

Our machining capability covers shafts up to 16 m in length and 2 m in diameter, machined on our large CNC lathes and cylindrical grinders. Journal surfaces are finished to IT5 tolerance with surface roughness Ra ≤ 0.8 μm, and keyways are precision-milled to ISO or DIN standards. For high-speed shafts, we perform dynamic balancing to minimize vibration and extend bearing life. For shafts in corrosive environments—such as chemical plant or marine applications—we offer protective surface treatments including hard chrome plating and nickel-based cladding.

A particular strength is our ability to manufacture replacement shafts for legacy equipment. Many industrial plants operate drives with shaft designs that are decades old and no longer supported by the original OEM. Our reverse-engineering service captures all dimensions—tapers, keyways, thread forms, shoulder radii—and produces a replacement that is dimensionally and functionally identical to the original. With 100,000 m² of manufacturing space and an integrated quality management system, we deliver shafts that meet or exceed original specifications.
