Product Introduction
Shafts are the unsung components of mechanical power transmission. While gears get the attention, the shaft's critical functions—transmitting torque, maintaining bearing alignment, and accommodating axial positioning—determine whether the entire drivetrain runs smoothly or fails prematurely. Hanwei manufactures a complete range of transmission shafts: gear shafts, pinion shafts, spindles, and line shafts, in sizes from 100 mm to over 2,000 mm diameter.
Our shaft manufacturing begins with material selection. For standard transmission shafts, we use chromium-molybdenum alloy steels (42CrMo grade) with tensile strengths of 750–900 MPa after quenching and tempering. For high-torque pinion shafts, we specify nickel-chromium-molybdenum grades with case-hardening capability, achieving surface hardness above 55 HRC while maintaining a tough core. All raw material is supplied with mill test certificates traceable to heat number.
The most critical manufacturing step for transmission shafts is achieving and maintaining shaft straightness and coaxiality. Our large-diameter shafts are machined between centers on heavy-duty CNC lathes with live tailstocks, maintaining radial runout below 0.03 mm over the full length. For assembled configurations—shaft with integral gear, coupling, or flange—we use boring and grinding operations with the shaft supported in precision V-blocks to hold coaxiality of bearing journals and mating surfaces to within 0.02 mm.
We offer two construction approaches for very large shafts. Monobloc forging is preferred for shafts up to 600 mm diameter, producing uniform grain flow and maximum strength. For shafts exceeding 600 mm or requiring integral flanges over 2,000 mm, we fabricate and weld from forged rings and rolled plate, with full post-weld heat treatment and ultrasonic inspection of all weld seams.
Our 3,000+ drawing library includes a wide range of standard shaft designs. For custom requirements, our engineering team can design shaft, key, and coupling configurations to match your existing equipment envelope.
